Things are really hotting up at BoT Sheffield HQ, with a high-profile launch now pencilled in for 4th September at Manor Oaks House, in Manor.

Think press conference, cooking demos and a celebrity guest or two… once I’ve confirmed them!

Programme Lead (Sheffield) Dave Doyle, with volunteer John Coatman.

I’d thought about asking Sheffield-born Hollywood legend Sean Bean, but I’m told he owns a chippy so that might not be ‘on-message’ for us…

It would be great to have a volunteer or three along on the day, to show Sheffield’s assembled media what we’re all about. So please let me know if you’re available and up for being a minor celebrity.

It was as heavy as it looks…

In other news, we now have TWO freezers to fill with bags of ingredients, so I don’t have to sacrifice space taken up by home-baked breads and frozen leftovers!

A quick rundown of where things stand now!

  • Launch date set for 4th September, location: Manor Oaks House, Manor.
  • Meeting with a food bank organiser this week to confirm first course venue.
  • Signed up to participant referral programmes with partner organisations.
  • Plans to attend two university volunteering fairs.
  • Meeting Sheffield Council exec to talk future support and referrals.
  • Consulting with mosque members about volunteers and possible second venue.
  • Sent the Sheffield Star a press release and arranged coverage for Wednesday.
  • Confirmed launch arrangements with the BBC, to secure their attendance.
  • Volunteer pool growing — please indicate what you’re up for, using that poll!
